Volunteering to teach English to children at a local school in Surin has been such a rewarding and amazing experience. The kids are so eager to learn and appreciative at your help-I enjoyed every second of it!

Spending 10 days allowed me to be immersed in the local culture, socialise with all the teachers and form a real bond with the other volunteers.

I will be so sad to leave them all!

June has been incredibly helpful from before my arrival to Bangkok to my last day-no detail was left uncovered!

It's a fantastic experience and I would like anyone to give it a go - I'll be leaving with so many fantastic memories.

Volunteering at Lemongrass has been a fantastic experience for me. Thank you to everyone who made it too! All aspects from the home to the school were well organized, enjoyable and made my stay in Thailand very comfortable. The school was so generous and welcoming the other.

Volunteers wonderful people and June was so lovely and helpful and generous.

Throughout, I would recommend it to everyone working for a wholesome, well rounded Thailand experience and I will treasure the memories.

Thank you!

Lemongrass has nothing but the best to offer. My stay have has been a great experience. June is very helpful and is there all along. I got to experience Thailand with her in a very different way. The other volunteers were super friendly and amazing; I hope to come back again.

Days passed by really quick as my stay was so comfortable.

I would definitely encourage people to have this kind of experience with Lemongrass exclusively.

Volunteering in Surin at the local school has just been an incredible experience. Before coming, I didn't really know what to expect, but here I am 10 days later, really sad of leaving the kids and the other volunteers. You get so much out of it, it is a challenge (a big one!) but also a good chance to discover yourself and to get exposed to a different culture and with different preferences.

The kids were just great, so eager to learn English and so happy to have us teach them.

June, you were great from our arrival in Bangkok to the end. Thanks for helping us with every detail.

Take care and I hope you have many more volunteers; it really is a great programme.

Thank you so much for the wonderful experience you have given us, teaching at Baan Tungroong school. We have had the most fun teaching, playing games and bonding with children all of whom were respectful, kind a credit to Thailand. We have thoroughly enjoyed your company and we endlessly appreciate the effort you put in, driving us around and translating for us. The welcome we received made us feel like family and for that we would recommend Lemongrass-volunteering to anyone! So again, thank you for making our first experience of Thailand a memorable and truly unforgettable one.

When I first saw the advert to teach English as a volunteer in Thailand, I was a bit apprehensive because it meant that I would be arriving in a foreign country on my own. I need not have worried because June the Volunteer Manager met me and she was so friendly and quickly put me at ease.

The accommodation is lovely, very modern with lovely wet rooms. In the evening we would go to June's house or she would bring us home cooked food. The food was lovely and June is an amazing cook. June did everything to make my trip as worthwhile as possible and would take me out in the evening to sample the area's attractions.

The Director and the teachers of the school made you feel most welcome and had great respect for you. The teaching wasn't difficult and the children were most respectful. They really enjoyed the lessons and the input from foreign teachers.

I would recommend volunteering to teach English to everyone. It's such a worthwhile experience and I am so pleased that I did it and will never forget the wonderful children that I taught.

"Since the moment I arrived at Surin, I felt very comfortable and the logistics were very well planned, it was like being at home. My first idea was teaching English at University, but finally, the department of languages of Surin University thought that it could be interesting for the students to learn some basic Spanish. So we did! I had a lot of fun explaining some basic words and cultural aspects to them, both the teachers and the students were very motivated and I had a good time. I was also a member of the jury in a "speech contest" of children of the province, which was very funny and interesting. June and Adrian put in a lot of effort to give me as many experiences as possible so that I could enjoy, learn and experience the Thai culture. I really recommend it! "

"I taught a variety of children aged between 4 and 10 from 9am until 2pm at a local school. The children were eager to learn, respectful and also very cute! I came to Thailand in hope to make a real difference- it really isn't the same to just hand out donations! The children need education and this way you REALLY are making a difference. I cannot believe how far the children have come in such a short amount of time or how they really have come into my heart. June's support, patience and encouragement made my trip what it was. I cannot recommend or praise this organization enough for the hard work and commitment to the volunteers."

"I volunteered for a week with LemonGrass and during our stay I taught English to Children in the mornings and Novice monks in the afternoon. The organisation of our stay was brilliant and everyone was so kind and welcoming. It was a truly great experience which I would recommend to anyone, I only wish I could have stayed longer."

"I recently volunteered through the LemonGrass organisation based in Surin and found it to be both a genuinely fun as well as truly rewarding venture. I was looked after every step of the way by the kind individuals in charge of running the programme and I really got the sense that they cared far more about the well-being of both the volunteers and the students than they did about turning a profit - unlike other schemes advertised online. I would definitely do it again and would also implore anyone with time to spare in Thailand to get in touch."

"I spent a fantastic 3 weeks volunteering at both schools in November 2011. June and Adrian where both extremely helpful, diligent and proved to be excellent hosts during my stay with them. Prior to that experience I had little teaching experience and as a direct result from the placement and others since, have now decided to pursue ESL as a career! Surin is a hidden gem, off the tourist map and a real Thai experience. Anyone looking for that authenticity and to try their hand at teaching some truly inspirational children should definitely volunteer with LemonGrass Volunteering. For a nominal amount the rewards in return are immeasurable. Go on, If you don't have a go, you'll never know!"

"When I went to LemonGrass as a volunteer I had no idea what to expect. All my doubts were removed from the time I met June Niampan (LemonGrass Manager) who is an amazing Thai woman who has a passion to be involved in teaching English to the local Thai people where there is a growing need and interest. Both June and Adrian Jamieson (volunteer coordinator) had liaised with me prior to arriving in Thailand and nothing was too much trouble either prior to my arrival at LemonGrass or during the three weeks while I was teaching English as a volunteer. In fact the care and interest shown was almost overwhelming, until I realised this is what they do so well!"

"Volunteering with LemonGrass was a wonderful experience for us. They care about all the details which made our time in Thailand perfect. They picked us up when the night train from Bangkok came into Surin at 4:00 in the morning. They made a wonderful placement at a rural school and provided support to us at the school. The house was a very comfortable base for us to go on adventures from. The town of Surin is within bike distance (and the bikes that are provided are good!) Thank you to LemonGrass for going above and beyond and giving us the chance to speak with Buddhist monks, explore local foods and for making us feel welcome."

"Having completed my CELTA in the summer and travelled to Thailand with friends I was keen to gain some experience teaching before deciding if I wanted to take it up as a full time career. I contacted LemonGrass and within a week travelled to Surin, met June and started teaching English to 8-12 year old kids. June was a trooper, immensely helpful with everything from advice on lesson planing to showing me around Surin, helping with my visa run to Cambodia and onward travel back to Bangkok. The teaching was great fun, the kids are so lively and there was never a dull moment! June couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful and I immediately felt at home. Working with LemonGrass is a great experience, I highly recommend it!"

"The LemonGrass house was very comfortable and Aor was a great housemate! It was really useful having the use of the computer for lesson plans etc. The teaching books and materials were also helpful and the bicycles were handy to get around. June was extremely supportive and friendly. I had a great experience overall and am considering going into teaching after I graduate. Only real downside was that I only had 2 weeks."

"I chose to work in the day care centre because I knew I would love working with little toddlers and it was amazing! The children were so cute and the teacher and a co-worker looked after me really well at the day care centre. The children were very loving and it was so rewarding working with children who were so appreciative of having you there to play with them and help them."

"The placement was what we expected and a lot more, we really enjoyed it, had a lot of fun and got a lot of experience from our time with LemonGrass. We would love to come back and do some more volunteering at some point in the future!"

"Staff support was excellent and way beyond my expectations. June called into us daily, escorted us to class and also escorted us on a trip at the weekend. June and Aor took us out many evenings for food and drinks as well as cooking Thai meals, barbeques etc for us. It was almost like we were guests rather than volunteers. Overall, we were extremely well looked after and the visit was a very social one."

Susan, Ireland

"The staff were very helpful, June was very obliging and knowledgable (especially as regards day trips, etc). I was made to feel very welcome (Aor was lovely too!). The placement was fantastic, it really helped me to gain confidence in my teaching skills and to improve and practice them."

"I wasn't fully sure what to expect from my placement, but I do know that I enjoyed every minute of it. I signed up for teaching English to adults, children and childcare and had the chance to carry out all three and so much more. After completing my 11 week placement I can say for sure that I would recommend LemonGrass to anyone interested in volunteering. I myself would return at the drop of a hat!"

"I spent two weeks in Thailand working beside June. She was a wealth of knowledge and her easy demeanour made our transition from the US to Thailand seamless. She not only guided us through our volunteer experience but helped us to truly experience the culture and people of Thailand."

Amanda, United States

Volunteer with children

"A good experience, I'm glad I did it. I found the kids to be very friendly and the teachers welcoming. It was always nice to come to school each morning and see the familiar and friendly faces. I enjoyed watching the sports day and always liked the food the school put on for lunch. The only sad thing was that it had to end after my two weeks I signed up for. June at LemonGrass volunteering was very helpful with any queries I had about Surin or Thailand, as well as about the actual teaching process."

"Having never travelled to Asia before one of my first worries was the language and cultural differences. After minutes of meeting June all my worries were instantly put at ease. June made my volunteering trip the fabulous experience that it was. Having someone who spoke English and Thai made tasks like ordering train tickets or organising trips to an elephant sanctuary, simple acts."

"I thoroughly enjoyed my experience living and working in Surin. From the very start of my stay when June met me in Bangkok to my sad departure two months later, June and her team were nothing short of amazing. I feel I have made life long friends there, so much so that I am going back later this year to pay them a visit! Can't rate the experience highly enough."
